April 11 Core Group Meeting Agenda Tom DeBoni Regional Activities ------------------- EBRPD Board meetings We need a core group to attend each one we hear of Keep our presence obvious to them Keep our concerns on their minds Demand/request a complete detailed description of the development plan and timeline; in particular: 1) We know Mike Anderson, but who is this "Larry" I keep hearing about? 2) What is that bulldozer driver doing, and why does he have to block our trails? Can we arrange some sort of compromise on this? 3) Where is all that dirt coming from, how much more will be brought in, and where will it be put? 4) Will the scraped area REALLY be allowed to go back to its previously wild state, regarding flora and fauna? Get our arguments and presentations organized, maybe a computer presentation: 1) Show results of local activities, below 2) Discuss value of site as preserve (?!) 3) Discuss value of site to wildlife and xeriscape 4) Discuss value of site to human users: quiet, seclusion, variety, community 5) Discuss value of site to dogs socialization, exercise: Uniqueness of site - we are an under-served constituency Should we call Oyster Bay a "dog park"? Should we call ourselves "dog owners or walkers"? Newspaper articles Need authors Legal actions Hire an environmental attorney? Merge or at least liase with 4 Paws group advocating the Marina Dog Park? There park was cancelled by San Leandro. We need a volunteer. Liase with Point Isabel Dog Owners organization They've been through this already, and succeeded at it. We need a volunteer. Fence the site so dog walkers have an isolated half (no less than half) and others can have the rest for picnic areas 1) the back wild area for us, the front manicured area for others 2) or, maybe a different division...? Allow dog users a private entrance and access to the dog areas? If the Davis Street will be the Main entrance, maybe we can have the Neptune Street entrance. Will there be provision for police patrols of the developed park to protect all users from illegal usages? Do we want to solicit monetary donations to cover legal assistance, chemical analysis? Local Activities ---------------- Shall we have another weekend survey and petition activity sometime soon? Bring a laptop so we can check on the spot whether names and emails are already in our data base. Bring chairs, tables, water, shade, handouts Organize a firm schedule of volunteers Organize a core member set up, and onother to close down and safeguard the resulting papers and other materials Video-tape truck and bulldozer activities Explain to the drivers what we're doing and why, first? Photo-document changes and damage to flora and fauna Seek community photos for "before" and "after" Fill dirt gathering and analysis 12 people each spend 5 minutes gathering dangerous stuff from the surface of the fill; this is one hour of exposure for barefoot children Chemical analysis of fill dirt Shows of strength - gather large crowds of dog owners and dogs, and take photos of us all Meet with Mike Anderson in strength at the site I'd like to see at least 100 people and perhaps more dogs in the above two actions. Reorganize the web site 1) determine where it is and who should have access to it 2) disseminate authentication information 3) discuss a group on Google or Yahoo or Facebook or ... 4) Discuss a mailing list with moderated incoming and exploded outgoing mail; appoint moderators. 5) Should we put an album of pictures of people and dogs on the site?
